What is plantar fasciitis?

It is inflammation of the tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot. Symptoms include stabbing pain near the heel that is typically worse in the morning. Upon getting out of bed many patients describe the pain as if they were walking on glass. The pain can recur after long spells of sitting.

What causes plantar fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis can be caused by biomechanical flaws such as over-pronation, flat feet or high arches and Achilles tendon tightness. Changes in activity like sudden increases in training mileage and running on hard surfaces, like asphalt or concrete are other causes. Wearing worn running shoes and weight gain stresses the plantar fascia causing inflammation as well.
